We Do

Myles of Great Hopes embarks on its vision to empower, revive and sustain hopes through engaging the communities by being part of the process through volunteering. We have three major platforms that we embrace and they swiftly branch- out to multiple segments.

The three platforms are (a) Education, (b) Churches, and (c) Community based organizations. These are our three major areas of concentration and we have been blessed in touching lives positively in each single one. The need is greater than anyone can ever ask for and we are very excited in going out there and remaining part of the solution.

Solution has a broader meaning defined by how well Myles of Great Hopes is enhancing education, clean water and sanitation, church programs and support, water wells, health through medical missions, training and volunteering sense of ownership, reducing human trafficking rural-urban migration, bible drives, distribution and evangelism, child girl education sponsorship initiative, economic sustainability programs and projects, camping and team building through soccer, art and craft camps, exchange letter/greeting cards initiative, illness reduction campaign through technological prevention techniques.

Imagine if your child or a grandmother or anyone you love had to walk for 5 kilometers daily in search of unsafe water, that is approximately 5 hours a day, 35 hours/week, or close to 1,700 hours in one year, and only to drink it and fall sick!! With your help, we will together change such dynamics

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the failure to provide safe drinking water and adequate sanitation service is the greatest developmental failure of the twentieth century. The estimated average deaths per year is greater than 5 million related to unsafe drinking water and improper disposal of human waste. Large amounts of monies have been spent on centralized large-scale water systems that cannot be maintained with local expertise or resources.

Our strategy is to use a "soft path" that relies on smaller scale systems maintained and operated by the local communities. MoGH's clean water projects provide vital education on hygiene and sanitation. As people stop drinking from contaminated sources, waterborne pathogens such as e-coli, shigella, typhoid, cholera, and malaria will be easily controlled. The result will be a dramatic decline in the morbidity and mortality of water borne diseases, creating a healthier population with less economic burden and improved growth opportunity.

In addition, by provision of water, the man hours wasted in search of water will be freed for more productive use. Case in point; 500 families spend almost more than 60,000 hours per month in search of water while children waste double the amount. MoGH will eradicate this waste.

We are working to solve major problems and growing a healthy economy for these people and the rest of the society. For example, due to high unemployment, a large number of the graduating high school and college youth turns to drugs and crime. Many deaths have been caused by this group. MoGH's water solution and mentorship engages those youth and provides avenues for employment and a direction. For example, Kenya is the second largest rose flower producer and a world leader in carnation flower production. Water is a key component in such a sustaining enterprise if better managed, and MoGH is committed to driving target poor communities to such endeavors.

In our church engagement, help needed ranges from donating a bible, to water, to social involvement and leading conferences to initiating programs like child care, after school care, training camps, and center to educate and gather volunteers, as well as water projects for the community.
